Vervisch wins TAG Heuer Best Lap Trophy after epic Shedden chase

Frédéric Vervisch just missed out on a first WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO victory in Race 3 at WTCR Race of China-Wuhan, but did at least claim the TAG Heuer Best Lap Trophy during his fantastic chase of eventual winner Gordon Shedden.

The Audi Sport Team Comtoyou driver inherited second place from team-mate Denis Dupont when the fellow Belgian smacked into the tyre stack on the inside of the chicane, then chased Shedden hard for victory following a short safety car interruption. His fastest lap of 1m23.990s was enough to win the TAG Heuer Best Lap Trophy.

The effort was four tenths faster than Jean-Karl Vernay's benchmark from Race 1, which the Audi Sport Leopard Lukoil Team driver went on to win on Saturday. Both were also faster than reverse-grid Race 2 winner Mehdi Bennani's best lap in his Sébastien Loeb Racing Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.

Overall, Vervisch scored well on the Wuhan International Street Circuit, adding a fifth place in Race 1 and ninth in Race 2 to his close-fought runner-up spot in Race 3.
