Scattolon vows to fight back for ERC honours in Ireland

Italian driver Giacomo Scattolon is at a loss to understand what happened on the final stage of the FIA European Rally Championship's Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés, when he was deprived of second place in the ERC2 classification by Hungary's driver Péter Ranga in an older Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.

Scattolon started the final stage only 1.4 seconds ahead of Ranga, but ended it 4.7 seconds behind - despite having encountered no problems and feeling that he had driven more quickly than his rival over the course of the event.

"I'm very disappointed but most of all I'm confused," said Scattolon. "I think we had the measure of Péter throughout the rally and I did nothing wrong on the last stage so I really don't understand what happened. From inside the car, I felt there were no problems. But the results speak for themselves."

Having been relegated to third in the ERC2 standings behind Wojciech Chuchała and Ranga, Scattolon has vowed to fight back on the next round, the Circuit of Ireland Rally. "Now we'll go to Ireland and see what we can do there," concluded the 26-year-old. "Hopefully it can be an event that suits us."
