Alex Wurz tests World RX Supercar

Two-time Le Mans winner Alexander Wurz took his first steps towards competing in the FIA World Rallycross Championship yesterday by testing with the World RX Team Austria squad at Greinbach in Austria, just a week after the team completed its second season in the World RX in Argentina.

Former Formula One driver Wurz joined team owner and driver Max Pucher at the test, driving the team's latest evolution Ford Fiesta Supercar, called the 2017 MJP RXS 01 Supercar. The Austrian star experiencing top-level rallycross machinery for the first time almost 40 years after his father, the legendary Franz Wurz, won three FIA European Rallycross Championship titles.

"It was just fantastic to drive this car," said Wurz, who finished on the podium three times in his Formula One career.

He continued: "After my first few runs I worked out how to drive the car quite nicely, especially how to rotate it early into the corners with the massive power - it's just super cool! I'm impressed by the car, and I really love rallycross, it's as simple as that. I can understand why I could get very hooked on this sport and this driving. I would love to do a few races next season but it's all about the coming weeks, we will know better then what my schedule will allow. I want to thank World RX Team Austria giving me this opportunity."

Wurz completed 27 laps around the Austria circuit, between the cities of Vienna and Graz. "Alex did a great job at the test. It was easy to see that he thoroughly enjoyed driving our Supercar," said Pucher. "It was a pleasure to have him in the car and see what he could do with it. We hope that he can manage one or two races in with us in 2017, schedules permitting. I am truly satisfied with our 2016 season but I do look forward to 2017 to compete again in the FIA World Rallycross Championship. We don't yet know what the configuration of the team will be, or who the drivers will be yet, but I am certain that we will do very well."
