World RX stars kick off Gymkhana grid action

The season is not yet over for several FIA World Rallycross Championship stars that competed in the final round of World RX in Cape Town last weekend.

Just a handful of days after starting together on the front row of the grid in the World RX of South Africa final, PSRX Volkswagen Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson and Petter Solberg are competing this weekend at Gymkhana GRiD in Johannesburg, along with Britain’s Oliver Bennett.

Solberg and Kristoffersson will drive their World RX Teams’ Championship winner Volkswagen Polo R Supercars, and Bennett will drive his familiar BMW Mini Cooper Supercar. They will be joined by another member of the World RX paddock, Solberg’s son Oliver, who works as part of the Spotters team for PSRX and won the RallyX Nordic Championship this season. “I love working and competing with the Solberg family, but Saturday is going to be something special… facing two of them. The Gymkhana Grid is a really nice event. It’s a place to do some drifting and some donuts and have some fun in the car. It’s a cool event in a cool place with a lot of fans coming to watch. It’s a nice way to end the season,” said Kristoffersson.

Solberg and Kristoffersson have both won GRiD before and will also be joined in action by World RX and Americas Rallycross star Ken Block in the event. “It’s fantastic to be racing with Oliver,” said Petter Solberg. “It’s a really nice way to end the season. He’s got a good car there, that Xsara was one of my favourite. For sure he has some tricks in that car. I know, I built it!”
