Szabo ready for Euro RX supercar debut with EKS

Double FIA European Rallycross Super1600 Champion Krisztian Szabo will make his Euro RX Supercar debut with EKS in France and Latvia this September.

Szabo won back-to-back Euro RX Super1600 titles with the Volland Racing team in 2016 and 2017 but has since been focusing on landing a Supercar drive to make the next step in his career. He tested with EKS at the official in-season World RX test at Riga in Latvia in July and is looking forward to racing the Audi S1 quattro in the final two rounds of Euro RX this season.

"I'm really excited, thank you to EKS for the opportunity and to be part of the team, a dream has come true for me. The car is amazing, I think it's the best car I have ever driven. It's amazing how it goes and how easy it is to drive. I'm really looking forward to race it," said Szabo, who despite lining up against tough competition from the likes of Latvia's Reinis Nitiss, Sweden's Anton Marklund and France's Cyril Raymond, says he is targeting victory in Euro RX Supercar. "I want to be on the podium, maybe event for the first place," he said.

The Hungarian driver says although a big increase in power from a Super1600 car to a four-wheel-drive Supercar, he is comfortable with driving the S1. "It's quite a step, I wouldn't say it's a really, really huge step, its definitely a step but really in driving style once you are familiar with rallycross and you can drive in Super1600, you are somewhere there. You have to adapt to the cars and change your style, but the test went well, it was a step forward. After the two days I'm satisfied. I think I'm nearly there, I had never driven a car like this so I have to get used to it, to get familiar with the car to know where are the edges, how close I can go to the walls and everything. It was better and better through the two days and I'm happy. I would definitely like to step into this team and make a full championship next season."
