Why Zengő is loving the WTCC

Zoltán Zengő says racing in the FIA World Touring Car Championship is a "great pleasure" for his Hungary-based team.

Zengő Motorsport is established as one of the leading privateer outfits in the WTCC, having claimed the WTCC Trophy title twice in addition to four outright race wins with former driver Norbert Michelisz.

It has recruited French rookie Aurélien Panis to drive one of its Honda Civic WTCCs in 2017 and will confirm the identity of its second signing in the coming weeks.

"It is a great pleasure for us that we can race in a championship which really appreciates the enormous work we have done and values our team," said Zoltán Zengő. "Through the WTCC we became a member of the international racing society and it feels good that Zengő Motorsport is highly regarded and honoured in this family. We have built an excellent relationship with the leadership of the WTCC and it can serve as a firm ground for our next success story."

Following Michelisz's step up to the factory Honda team for 2016, Zengő signed Hungarian youngsters Ferenc Ficza and Dániel Nagy to lead its assault on last season's WTCC with both drivers impressing, despite their lack of experience.

The 2017 WTCC season gets underway on the streets of Marrakech with WTCC Race of Morocco from 7-9 April.
