Renault engine problem halted Toro Rosso's 2017 F1 car filming day

Toro Rosso had to halt its filming day with its STR12 2017 Formula 1 car on Wednesday early due to a Renault engine problem.

The team was running at Misano in Italy but did not manage to complete the 100 kilometres of running permitted by the FIA.

It was still able to gather sufficient footage for its promotional plans first.

Autosport has learned that the issue was in the energy recovery system of the Renault power unit.

Toro Rosso has returned to Renault for 2017 after a season with a year-old Ferrari engine, and will again field Carlos Sainz Jr and Danill Kvyat.

Renault is now analysing the problem in an effort to avoid a repetition during the first official pre-season test at Barcelona next week.

Toro Rosso will reveal its 2017 car at the Spanish Grand Prix venue this Sunday afternoon ahead of testing beginning the following morning.
