KX Momentum pair chase Silverware at Silverstone

The MG KX Momentum British Touring Car Championship squad of Jason Plato and Sam Tordoff are both aiming to bounce back to the top of the rostrum as the series reconvenes at Silverstone this weekend.

Plato, who has been on the podium eight times so far this season and has landed four wins, says he wants to boost his career tally of victories. If he won two of the weekend's three races, Plato could net his 80th career triumph on Sunday - which is way more than any other driver in the history of the championship.

"That's what things are all about for me," said Plato. "The championship is a long shot for us, so my target has to be to push my victory total towards the 100 mark. I love big shiny trophies and big bottles of champagne - that makes me very happy.

"Silverstone is a really tough circuit because it is so short and that means the order can get mixed up and one of the important things will be the aerodynamics of the cars, which will play to our strengths."

Despite that advantage, Plato says that the layout of the track, which features four corners, is not particularly to his liking. "It isn't one of the most exciting circuits in the world, but the racing is usually quite exciting because no one is able to build up a huge advantage," said the MG racer. "We went really well at Silverstone last season and we have developed our car since then, so I am full of optimism."

Plato's team-mate Sam Tordoff, who has opened his victory account earlier this season and has added another two podiums too, says that the level of competition at Silverstone is likely to be as high as at any other stage of the season.

Because the circuit is only 1.6-miles long, it means that the field will remain tightly packed over the course of the three races on Sunday.

Tordoff explained: "We know that the circuit isn't particularly suited to Honda, but there will be lots of other competitions. That BMWs aren't short of boost, the Audi will be good and you can't discount the Fords, either. It is a circuit that is all about turbo boost really and that means we will have competition from all directions.

"People think that we have bucket loads of boost, but compare the others, things are pretty equal. The lap is so short that a few tenths of a second will make all the difference and we will have to be on the pace from the very start. It is going to be intense but I am up for the fight."

Team principal Ian Harrison said that the team would concentrate on its own performance rather than look at other squads. "We have to make sure that we do the best job we possibly can," he said. "We are going to get the basics right, make certain that we come out in the best shape. Silverstone is a circuit where we have gone well in the past, so it should suit us, but the pressure has been ramped up and we need to perform."

The races will be shown live on ITV4 and coverage of the meeting will begin at 11.15hrs.
