Goodwood Revival 2014 Race Highlights | Freddie March Memorial Trophy

15. 9. 2014

The final race of the day held between 1952 and 1955, saw an initial dice between two mighty cars, the 5.4-litre Cunningham C4R of Sam Hancock and Darren McWhirter’s 4.5-litre Lagonda Le Mans. Hancock’s monster American car led initially, pressured by the British V12. Making a move that had been threaten for some time, McWhirter took the lead on the fifth lap. Behind him Hancock held on for a while, but McWhirter was obviously enjoying himself as he gradually pulled away. With less than six minutes Adrian Willmott’s Austin Healey 100S was seen to be catching up third placed Robert Newall, taking over as the latter pitted his Cooper-Jaguar with two laps remaining. A last minute sprint by Hancock closed the gap at the front but Scot, McWhirter remained in control.
