Zandvoort next for WTCR Alfa Romeos
Romeo Ferraris, the company responsible for developing the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR that races in the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO - has higher hopes for a strong showing Circuit Zandvoort from 19-21 May.
Run by Team Mulsanne in WTCR OSCARO, the all-Italian machines continue to show promise but drivers Fabrizio Giovanardi and Gianni Morbidelli once again went unrewarded at the Nürburgring Nordschleife last weekend.
"The WTCR round at the Nordschleife was something unique and so will be the next stop at Zandvoort as well," said Romeo Ferraris' Operations Manager Michela Cerruti. "We have understood that it is essential to adapt better to the Yokohama tyres used in the [WTCR], to which we were not used, especially in qualifying, in order to show the true potential of our cars.
"In the race, Fabrizio and Gianni, who was racing on the Nordschleife for the first time, were able to cope with the many variables of the Green Hell, although the outcome was pretty [disappointing]. Fabrizio suffered a puncture while he was having a really good pace, while Gianni was the faultless victim of nasty accident, which luckily did not have serious consequences."
