Tassi not afraid to fight Michelisz for home WTCR glory

World Touring Car teen Attila Tassi insists taking on national hero and former mentor Norbert Michelisz holds no fear.

Tassi and Michelisz will face off for home glory when the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO visits the Hungaroring from 26-28 April.

Nineteen-year-old Tassi will line up in a KCMG Honda Civic Type R for what will be his fourth weekend in WTCR / OSCARO, while compatriot Michelisz, 34, drives a Hyundai i30 N TCR for BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse and is a multiple winner at the track northeast of the Hungarian capital Budapest.

“He’s the same as any other driver when I am racing against him,” said Tassi. “If I see him on the track it will be the same as all the others.”

Tassi drove for the M1RA team Michelisz co-founded and admits his countryman has helped his progression.

“I was racing in his team two years ago,” said Tassi. “I learned about the driving style and the techniques he uses. I think I would still be at the level where I am now without him, but he helped the progress to be faster.”
