Muller: Björk’s Lynk & Co WTCR win makes up for Marrakech exit

Thed Björk’s breakthrough victory for Chinese manufacturer Lynk & Co at WTCR AFRIQUIA Race of Morocco last weekend helped Yvan Muller get over the disappointment of retiring from the lead of Race 3 in Marrakech.

Muller was on course to score the first win for the Geely Group Motorsport-developed Lynk & Co 03 TCR only for his charge to come to an abrupt end on lap 14 of the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO counter.

But while Muller would retire to the pits, Björk inherited top spot and maintained his advantage to the flag, despite intense pressure from Comtoyou Team Audi Sport driver Frédéric Vervisch.

“I was really disappointed to retire from the lead after showing strong form in both qualifying and the races,” said Frenchman Muller, the four-time FIA World Touring Car champion. “But I am very happy for the team, delivering a victory and points lead on debut with a manufacturer that is completely new to motorsport, Lynk & Co.”
