WTCC part of historic FIA triple at Macau Grand Prix

This week's Macau Grand Prix will feature three FIA championships for the first time with the FIA World Touring Car Championship returning to the event alongside the FIA F3 World Cup and FIA GT World Cup.

It is the most ambitious programme ever undertaken by the Macau organisers in the events 64-year history.

Seven F3 teams fielding 22 drivers, seven GT manufacturers accounting for 20 entrants, plus 19 WTCC drivers in cars from four different makes comprise the most diverse and comprehensive line-up brought together under an FIA banner.

Callum Ilott (SJM Theodore Racing by Prema, Robin Frijns (Audi Sport Team WRT) and Ma Qing Hua (Sébastian Loeb Racing Citroën) came together to represent their categories ahead of track action getting underway on Thursday morning.

Ma, who is returning to the World Touring Car Championship at WTCC JVCKENWOOD Race of Macau, the Suncity Group Macau Guia Race, following a lengthy absence, said: "It's always difficult to race especially at this street race. As the recent races in China and Japan have proved, the top 10 is very close and very competitive for everyone so it's going to be a hard race."
