Top recognition for Latvia ERC promoter

Organisers of Rally Liepāja, Latvia's round of the FIA European Rally Championship, have been recognised for their work in organising the country's World RX qualifier.

At last weekend's FIA Off-Road Commission gala in Slovenia, Raimonds Strokšs, director of RA Events, received the award for achieving the highest rating among all rounds of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2016.

Areas rated included track equipment, safety, professionalism of event staff, the work of the organisers and marketing. Neste World RX of Latvia came out on top following the assessment process.

Strokšs (pictured centre) said: "We set a goal of organising the best event in the championship in one of these three years [of our contract], but accomplishing that in our first year is absolutely unbelievable! I am thrilled that we have justified the trust put into us, and have showed the world that Latvia is a wonderful place. I am thankful to our partners Neste, Lattelecom, Live Riga, Porsche centre Rīga, Latvian Ministry of Education and Science, and CSDD, as well as everyone who has put in their work, imagination, enthusiasm and time in order to organise this event in Latvia and make it possible to gather the planet's best racing drivers in the legendary Biķernieki track. In addition to that, I am also happy about the thousands of spectators who attended the event - the full grandstands definitely gave a boost to drivers competing in the event. It is great that by working together we managed to organise the best event of the year, beating such rallycross powers as Sweden, Great Britain, France, and Norway."

Neste World RX of Latvia takes place from 16-17 September with Rally Liepāja, part of the ERC since 2013, bringing the curtain down on the ERC season from 6-8 October.
