Toomas Heikkinen leaves EKS

Finland's Topi Heikkinen, who has driven for the EKS team in the FIA World Rallycross Championship for the last two seasons, has published a statement about his future.

"After two brilliant years driving the Audi S1 RX quattro in the FIA World Rallycross Championship, it's time for me to say goodbye to EKS," he said.

I want to thank the whole team and especially Mattias for everything over the last two years. We've had a lot of fun and some amazing moments. I'm really happy that we both finished on the podium in Germany, in one of my last races with the team. I have made a lot of friends in EKS and wish them all the best for the future.

Now it's onto the next stage. I'm not yet sure what the future will bring, but I will be able to announce more about my future in January."

Heikkinen finished on the podium three times in 2016 driving EKS's Audi S1 RX quattro. He was third at Montalegre in Portugal, second at Hockenheim in Germany and third at Rosario in Argentina. In 2017, he finished third in round 11 at Estering in Germany. In his time with EKS, he finished seventh in the World RX Drivers' Championship twice, and helped the team to win the Teams' Championship in 2016, as team mate to Sweden's Mattias Ekstrom, who claimed the World RX Drivers' title.
