Super 1600 round-up: Szabo wins in France

The FIA European Rallycross Championship for Super1600 supported the eighth round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Loheac in France, where Hungary's Krisztian Szabo and Denmark's Ulrik Linnemann continued their fight at the head of the championship standings.

A fastest time and consistency through the qualifying stages of the event secured Szabo pole position for the first semi-final by finishing top at the Intermediate Classification, while Linnemann was fifth overall after Q4. Szabo then beat Linnemann in the first semi-final to secure pole position for the final, while Czech Republic's Josef Susta won semi-final two to start on the front row. Szabo made the best start in the all-important final and led into the first corner, while contact between Lithuania's Kasparas Navickas and Susta allowed Linnemann to climb up to second, before taking his joker lap immediately.

Susta, who had dropped behind France's Maximilien Eveno, re-took the position before both drivers took their joker on lap two, Susta returning to third in the pack with Eveno sixth. Linnemann did all he could to hunt Szabo down in the remaining laps, but the Skoda driver stayed ahead even after taking his joker to score his second win of the season and move seven points ahead in the championship standings. France's Enzo Libner finished fourth with Eveno fifth and Navikas sixth.

The next round of the Super1600 Championship takes place alongside World RX in Barcelona in less than two weeks, where the FIA European Rallycross Championship for Supercar and the RX Lites Cup will also be in action.
