Salsten to compete at Loheac in supercar

Reigning FIA European Rallycross TouringCar champion Fredrik Salsten will compete in the eighth round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Loheac in three weeks time, driving the Peugeot 208 Supercar he is campaigning in Euro RX this season.

Salsten is currently fourth overall in the Euro RX standings and is looking forward to joining Peugeot-Hansen Academy team mates Kevin Hansen and Davy Jeanney in World RX at Loheac. "This is something that I could only dream about a couple of years ago when I was racing back home in Sweden. It's going to be one of the coolest things I've ever done," said Salsten. "The main reason for doing the event is to get more Supercar racing experience, and of course everybody knows that France is the home of Peugeot. My aim is definitely to make the semi-finals, if I can make it to there then anything can happen."

The Swede has had an up-and-down opening three events of the year - he rolled his 208 at the opening round of Euro RX at Mettet in Belgium but scored a maiden podium finish at his home round at Holjes in Sweden.

"The highlight of my year so far was the race in Holjes. My battle there with this year's best rookie, Kevin Hansen (in my opinion), was amazing. From rolling in Belgium in the first race to being on the podium just two races later means I'm able to push for the overall top-three in Euro RX this season."

Salsten says that racing in TouringCar gave him a good step up to Supercar ahead of his full-time switch to the sport's top division. "The big difference between driving a TouringCar and a Supercar is that it is easier to make up for an mistake in a Supercar because it has so much more traction and power. But, to drive a Supercar on the edge, pushing the limits all the time, requires much more from you as a driver. Racing in a Supercar has always been my dream."
