Rallying great Sainz lends his support to Peugeot’s new ERC Junior U28 recruits
The Peugeot Rally Academy's FIA European Rally Championship campaign was officially launched in Madrid today - and rallying legend Carlos Sainz made a guest appearance.
Sainz, part of Peugeot's Dakar line-up and a mentor of Peugeot Rally Academy drivers Pepe López and José Suarez, is also an ambassador for the brand in Spain.
He joined López, Suarez, their respective co-drivers Borja Rozada and Cándido Carrera, plus Peugeot España's Director of Communications, Eduardo García Nieto, at the press conference in the Spanish capital this afternoon.
López and Suarez will contest the inaugural ERC Junior U28 Championship in 2017 in a pair of Peugeot 208 T16s. The category for rising talents rewards its winner with a prize drive on a European round of the world championship in 2018 in a 2016-specification World Rally Car.
The new ERC season begins on the Azores Airlines Rallye from 30 March-1 April.
