Kristoffersson to contest WRC Rally Sweden

FIA World Rallycross Champion Johan Kristoffersson will take part in Rally Sweden next month, his home round of the World Rally Championship.

Kristoffersson will swap the Volkswagen Polo GTI Supercar he used to win his first World RX title last season for a Skoda Fabia R5 to compete on the snow covered winter stages, and was the very last driver to enter the famous rally.

"It's absolutely unbelievable, everything went very fast, but I'm striving to perform at my best. I have far too little experience to be able to compete in the absolute top overall in WRC2. No matter what you do, experience only comes with experiences, but I still hope to make some top three results on single stages," he said. "After my previous start in the rally, in 2016, I've come a long way and it's getting okay with the pace notes. The difficulty for me is instead to write pace notes that are detailed, but not too much information. I may be able to get 70 percent of the information compared to the most experienced drivers."

The reigning World RX champion is hoping that competing in Rally Sweden can help him increase his skills further for competing in rallycross. "My previous rally efforts have helped me to get faster in the joker, for example. I've always said it's important to be in ‘racing mode' as often as possible, to get the experience of preparing for a competition. You learn a lot when you prepare."

Former World RX drivers, Sweden's Pontus Tidemand and Norway's Ole Christian Veiby will also compete on Rally Sweden.
