Hedstrom to drive Polo for Barcelona and Latvia

Former Swedish Rallycross Champion Peter Hedstrom will race an ex-Marklund Motorsport Volkswagen Polo RX Supercar in the final rounds of the FIA European Rallycross Championship in Barcelona and Latvia.

Hedstrom previously raced an OMSE-built Ford Fiesta Supercar this season but switched to the Polo for the first time at a RallyX Nordic Championship round last weekend, where he won. The Swede is targeting victory in Barcleona next week.

"I will go for a win in Barcelona. The Polo is very good - I like it very much. There's nothing wrong with the Fiesta but the Polo suits my driving style better. I loved the Skoda (Fabia) I raced before and the Polo is not a big difference to that," said Hedstrom. "The engine is better in the Polo than the Fabia, but the driving style is very similar. The Ford is good too but I am an action driver, I like to go flat out and the Polo works for me. Last year Barcelona was only my second race with the Fiesta and it was a big difference from the Skoda, so it took some time to go as fast as I could, but I was in the final. I had good speed in Holjes this year, I feel better now with the Polo so I will go for the win."

As part of a two-car operation, Hedstrom is planning an expanded programme of World RX events in 2017. "We're looking at what we should do in the coming years. The plan is that we will have two cars exactly the same next year. I want to drive in seven World Championship races, or maybe the European Championship and two or three World Championship, but the plan is to drive more World Championship events. My team mate Christer Dalmans did his first season in the Swedish Championship this year and for next season we will have two cars exactly the same, then we can rent one car out in the European and World Championship events, but not the full season next year. I have plans for 2018 to do more World Championship events."
