González vows to bounce back in ERC Junior U27

FIA ERC Junior Under 27 contender Marcos González has vowed to bounce back from the crash that caused his early exit from the Azores Airlines Rallye earlier this month.

González was fourth in class when hit trouble on the first run through the iconic Sete Cidades volcano stage. Although Canary Islander was uninjured, co-driver Rogelio Peñate required a visit to hospital after he hurt his neck in the impact.

"We are a bit disappointed because we wanted to score points for the ERC Junior U27 category," said the Lanzarote-based Peugeot 208 R2 driver. "We were in fourth position with a car with which we had not done any rally. We came too fast to a corner of the Sete Cidades stage and, in order not to roll the car, I preferred to go straight. The car crash into a wall. The worst thing is that my co-driver, Rogelio Peñate, had to be taken to the hospital with a lumbar vertebral fracture. The most important thing now is for Rogelio to get well soon. We really liked this rally and would love to be able to return next year."

González will be back on familiar territory when the ERC resumes on Rally Islas Canarias from 4-6 May.
