From sixth to sinking, Kasperczyk describes early Azores ERC exit

Tomasz Kasperczyk was in sixth place in the FIA ERC Junior Under 28 Championship category on the Azores Airlines Rallye earlier this month only for cruel luck to strike late on.

Driving his Tiger Energy Drink Rally Team Ford Fiesta R5, Kasperczyk was on course for a strong finish when he was forced to stop during the second run through the Grupo Marques superspecial with a mechanical failure.

"It is obvious that I would prefer to finish, especially since the damage our car suffered were not caused by my mistake," the Polish driver said afterwards. "It is hard not to be disappointed in such a situation, but nevertheless I focus on good things, and there were a few. I am satisfied with what we achieved on the stages, especially if you consider extremely tricky conditions and number of crews, who encountered numerous problems. The good news is that we improved our pace, comparing to our previous outing here. We could match the pace of much more experienced rivals, we gained many places in the overall standings, while our stage times were comparable with those scored by other Polish crews. All in all, this was a tough but effective lesson of rallying."

Kasperczyk and co-driver and compatriot Damian Syty will be back in action on next month's Rally Islas Canarias.
