ERC ace Griebel turns back the clock

Marijan Griebel turned back the clock last week when he got back behind the wheel of the Opel ADAM R2 he drove to the FIA ERC Junior Championship title in 2016.

Griebel, now a contender for the ERC Junior Under 28 crown in a top-of-the-range ŠKODA Fabia R5, was driving the R2-specificaiton Opel at the ProWIN Rallye Sprint during a rallyshow event in Uchtelfangen in his native Germany.

As well as winning his class, Griebel, a serving pole commissioner, placed fourth overall following three runs over an eight-kilometre stage alongside co-driver Stefan Kopczyk.

"Compliments to the organisers of the event, the circuit was great, the schedule worked and there were probably more than 1000 enthusiastic spectators on the track, and I was particularly honoured to be able to open the rally with the starting number 1," said Griebel. "I had a lot of fun with the Opel ADAM R2, and thanks to Opel Motorsport and the guys from Team Holzer, who made this possible. Unfortunately, I am likely to have a longer wait before my next [ERC] event but I will give everything to be fit and motivated when I return in my BRR Fabia R5."

Next up for the ERC Junior Under 28 competitors is Rally Rzeszow in Poland from 3-5 August, while the SEAJETS Acropolis Rally in Greece hosts the third event of the ERC season from 2-4 June.
