Chuchała slashes the gap to Rodrigues in scrap for ERC2 Azores win

Wojciech Chuchała did what he needed to do on the final morning of the Azores Airlines Rallye if he's to take a fourth ERC2 victory from as many starts.

A puncture on the last of Friday's stages had left the Subaru Poland Rally Team star 1m12.7s down on Azorean driver Ruben Rodrigues, but he was over 30s quicker on Graminhas, the first stage of the final day.

On Tronquiera, Chuchała took another 12.7s out of his rival and also benefitted from a 10s jump-start penalty handed to Rodrigues.

He then found another 4.2s on the Grupo Marques superspecial, leaving him just 13.6s behind with three stages left.

Pedro Vale didn't restart out of service this morning, leaving Juan Carlos Alonso in a comfortable third. He damaged his Mitsubishi on Tronquiera but is determined to take some silverware back to Argentina.

Rui Moniz restarted this morning after ending up in a ditch on Friday, but is over half an hour down.
