Catsburg relishing “incredibly close” WTCC title scrap

Nicky Catsburg starts WTCC JVCKENWOOD Race of Macau this week in the thick of the FIA World Touring Car Championship title fight.

Catsburg is third in the drivers' table, 19 points behind Polestar Cyan Racing team-mate Thed Björk with 120 points up for grabs between Macau and the season finale in Qatar.

"The goal for everyone at Polestar Cyan Racing, including me and Thed, is to win both titles together as a team, and all of our planning revolves around that," said Catsburg. "While there are just two race weekends left, we are still racing for 120 points and the top seven of the championship are separated by just 49 points. We are in a very strong position but it is incredibly close for the final races. I hope to be on the podium this weekend and I have an advantage of having raced here before."

But while the Dutchman has previous Macau experience to call upon following his participation in the FIA GT World Cup event last season, he insists he's by no means a Macau specialist.

"At Macau you just have to be close to the walls and be comfortable being close to the walls but I don't feel I really know Macau because we had a lot of red flags last year," he said. "I'm not the biggest fan of street circuits but I like the challenge of Macau."
