Belgium review: Touringcar & RX lites

Competing alongside the FIA World Rallycross Championship and FIA European Rallycross Championship for Supercar categories at Mettet in Belgium last weekend were the Euro RX TouringCar and RX Lites Cup support classes.

Like Ekstrom in World RX, Norway's Thomas Bryntesson made it two wins in the space of a week by following up on his Hockenheim RX win with victory at Mettet in RX Lites. The JC Raceteknik driver had to fight back from rolling his car in Q3 to extend his championship lead with victory.

Sweden's Simon Olofsson finished on the podium for the first time in 2016 with second, while Joachim Hvaal finished third for the second event in a row. Norway's Sondre Evjen was top qualifier at the Intermediate Classification but had contact with France's Cyril Raymond in the final, for which Raymond was disqualified. Evjen finished fourth and Set Promotion driver Simon Wago-Syversen crossed the line fifth.

The rear-wheel drive Euro RX TouringCar category had it's first round in Belgium and it was 17-year old Magda Andersson who claimed her maiden victory at European Championship level following a controlled drive in the final. 2015 Mettet RX winner Fredrik Magnussen finished second in a dash to the finish line with Andersson. Ben-Philip Gundersen completed the podium in third. Former champion Daniel Lundh set fastest time in Q2 and finished fourth in the final in his Volvo C30, with Per-Magne Royras fifth on his debut in a Mazda RX-8. David Nordgard topped the Intermediate Classification and won the first semi-final, but broken suspension on his Ford Fiesta on the first lap of the final forced the Norwegian to retire.

Don't forget, you can catch up with all of the Euro RX action from Mettet in the new OTT [over-the-top content] highlights programme available on the FIA World Rallycross Championship YouTube channel.
